Bayern Munich have announced Leon Goretzka will join them in July when the midfielders contract expires with his current club Schalke 04.
The 22 year old German has made over 100 appearances for the Bundesliga side having scored 14 goals in the process. He joined Schalke 04 in 2013 from VfL Bochum where he made 32 appearances.
Gortezka had drawn interest from Premier League sides such as Liverpool and Manchester United but ultimately the German chose to stay in the Bundesliga and join Munich.
When asked about what the club had done to keep the midfielder, Schalke manager Christian Heidel said “We’ve done everything we can to keep Leon.”
“In the summer there was an agreement with him and his advisor. He still wanted time to wait for athletic development.”
Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was delighted with the move, adding: “We are very happy that Leon has decided, despite considerable competition from abroad, to sign for FC Bayern. This ensures he will remain in the Bundesliga.”
