After a brilliant performance away to Bournemouth, Liverpool travelled down to North London to face Arsenal in a Friday Night clash.

Having won the previous fixture against Arsenal 4-0 at Anfield, Liverpool are looking to extend their unbeaten run to 13 games in all competitions.

First Half

Liverpool were forced into an early change in the game as skipper Jordan Henderson was substituted for James Milner due to a hamstring injury.

Throughout the first half, Liverpool had piled on the pressure against the home side and their efforts paid off when Philippe Coutinho scored his first ever Premier League headed goal. Mohamed Salah’s cross was deflected and Coutinho was the first man onto the ball before looping a header over Petr Cech.

Phillipe Coutinho Celebrating His Goal

The visitors were piling the pressure even more as Mohamed Salah had a one on one situation with Cech but the Czech came out on top, the ball fell to Sadio Mane, however his acrobatic effort went over the bar.

Minutes later, Mane and Salah combined again but a mis-kick from the Egyptian let Arsenal off the hook.

The first half ended and you can sense the frustration from the home fans as the stadium was ringing with boos.

Second Half

Arsenal started the second half with a change in defence as Skhodran Mustafi comes on for Monreal. The second half opened with Arsenal piling the pressure, however they were caught once again as Roberto Firmino slipped in the current Premier League top scorer Mohamed Salah as his shot was helped through with a deflection to make it 2-0 and 21 goals for the season in all competitions.

Liverpool’s celebrations were cut short as Arsenal pulled one back immediately through an Alexis Sanchez header. Sanchez got the better of a napping Joe Gomez at the far post and headed in to make it 2-1.

The momentum carried with Arsenal as two minutes later, Granit Xhaka scored a wonderful goal from 30 yards out. The away side looked completely dejected as they had squandered a two goal lead.

It went from bad to worse for the reds as Mesut Ozil capped off an amazing 10 minute run for Arsenal as his goal put the hosts 3-2 up on the night after a sublime one-two with Lacazette. In the space of 10 minutes, Arsenal had gone from 2-0 down to 3-2.

Arsenal Celebrating Their 3rd Goal of the Night

Liverpool looked helpless as the game had just turned on its head.

The wave of attacks from Arsenal kept coming but Liverpool managed to find a way to get back into the game after Roberto Firmino was left in acres of space and had Petr Cech’s glove stinging from a left foot strike, however Cech’s effort to keep Arsenal’s lead faded as the ball crept into the net for the 6th time.

Twenty minutes remained in what had been a rollercoaster Friday night football but neither team could find a winner and ultimately the points were shared by both teams which leaves Arsenal still trailing Liverpool in the table.

Arsenal 3 (Sanchez 53′, Xhaka 56′, Ozil 58′)
